Main Guidelines for the Correct Installation of General Fittings Products

General Fittings products are designed and manufactured to ensure high performance, safety and long-term durability. To preserve their characteristics and ensure the proper functioning of the system throughout the product’s entire service life, it is important to observe the following precautions during storage, installation and use.

Product Storage

All products listed in the General Fittings catalogue must be stored under suitable conditions, avoiding direct or indirect exposure to UV radiation and keeping them in their original General Fittings packaging until installation.

Products must not be placed near artificial heat sources or stored in damp environments or in areas containing particularly aggressive substances.

Main Requirements for System Installation

Where the installation involves connecting components made of different metals, suitable insulation solutions must be adopted, ensuring that the installation method and materials used provide complete chemical isolation of the threaded surfaces in direct contact.

The use of hygroscopic materials for sealing products is not permitted.

To preserve the integrity of the system, it is also recommended to avoid clamping or securing pipes at points excessively close to the fittings.

All installations using General Fittings products must be carried out in accordance with good engineering practice and applicable regulations.

The system must be tested in accordance with UNI EN 806-4 (9182), and the relevant documentation must be retained, indicating and certifying the date on which the test was performed.

End fittings must be properly secured to masonry structures or plasterboard walls using suitable brackets or anchoring systems.

For all types of fittings with a compression nut and olive, tightening must be carried out by initially screwing the nut on by hand and then completing the operation using suitable tools, ensuring compliance with the number of turns specified in the catalogue, technical data sheets or other documentation available on the General Fittings website (e.g. [tab.0059-T]).

Products must not be installed in direct contact with soil or cement-based materials.

For traceability purposes and the possible handling of warranty claims, documents confirming the product purchase date and production date must be retained, such as invoices, packaging or other relevant documentation.

Products must not be installed in direct contact with soil unless adequately insulated.

Main Requirements for Specific Operating Conditions

In the presence of particularly aggressive water, for example water with a low pH value or water treated with softeners, brass fittings made from raw materials with properties suitable for such conditions must be used.

A suitable pressure reducing valve must be installed upstream of the system if the pressure exceeds the limits specified for General Fittings products (refer to the catalogue, technical data sheets or website).

Where required by the system design, good engineering practice or specific installation conditions, suitable water hammer arrestors must be installed near quick-closing fixtures.
